As long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to move to a different country, well actually I wanted to move to USA. Okay even more precise. I wanted to move to New York. I mean who wouldn’t? Yes I know it is expensive to live there, but it such a nice place as there’s always something to do there!

Now back to the story. The visa process was quite difficult. No let me rephrase it is was insane! Ha! Forget that! So then I decided to try Canada. I’ve never been to the country, I mean it might be a scary place, but you know what f**k it. Life’s too short. So now to the juicy part. How did I do it? Well I decided to apply for an IEC (International Experience Canada) Visa. It is open for Brits who are aged between 18-30 years old, who want to work in Canada for two years. I applied through canada.ca and had to create an application for myself. The application goes into the pool. It’s almost like a national lottery draw. All I had to do was wait. It could be days. Or weeks. Months. Or even years. I thought omg I’m going to be waiting for a very long time. On 1st February, a kind customer at my work place gave me a fortune cookie, it said ‘good things will happen to you’ or something like that. Next thing I got an email saying I got selected to apply! Was it coincidence or was it luck. I like to think it was luck!

I had to do so much paper work for this! Firstly, I needed to take a picture of my passport. Sounds easy right? WRONG! I had to take a picture of the stamps in my passport AND it had to be one PDF file, it took a while but I did it. I had to get a police certificate which was easy. If anyone does think of applying for IEC, you have to use this website for the police certificate: https://www.acro.police.uk/Police-Certificates.
Okay so then I had to get my family information and fill out my information about my whole life basically. Once I submitted it all, I was invited to get my biometrics done in London, which is the only one in the UK. Wow it took a really long time to get my finger print and picture. In fact it took five minutes! I feel sorry for the people who have to travel far just to get a finger print! NUTS I SAY, NUTS!! Thankfully I’m a Londoner so it took me about twenty minutes to travel. But the poor buggers who had to travel far, my heart goes to them. After a week of submitting my biometrics, I got my visa! I was so happy, no I was ecstatic but I was so scared as I thought have I made the right decision? I will tell you in my next post.
